Rainbows

It’s  raining out one window, it’s brilliant sunshine out another. The ingredients  for a rainbow are sunlight  and water.  Some people think there is gold at the end of the rainbow.  How is this arch of colours that spreads across the sky formed?

Ordinary light and sunlight is called white light.White light is a mixture of seven colours. When white light passes through water it bends and splits into the seven colours, this is what happens when sunlight mixes with a raindrop.

The colours separate into the seven colours. The seven colours of the rainbow always appear in the same  order.  Red sits on the outer  line of the arch of colours then orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

A double rainbow is caused by the reflection of a bigger rainbow.  The reflection is caused by water droplets reflecting the first rainbow into a second rainbow. The rainbow is an optical illusion, when  we move it moves too.
